Breaking the cycle of ABUSE AND neglect
Childhaven is the only nonprofit organization in King County dedicated to the mission of healing young and vulnerable victims of abuse while breaking the cycle that leads to more hurt, more trauma.
For many of our children, we are the one constant in a young life marked by unpredictability and turmoil. For many of our families, we are their first real chance to stay together. They come to us from lives marked by abuse and neglect. They leave with enduring relationships and hope for the future.
Recognized leadership in child care
Childhaven is a recognized leader in therapeutic child care, tending each year to more than 400 abused and neglected children from one month through five years old. We help children learn to develop positive relationships through tested methods of therapeutic care. We also partner with community agencies and health care providers to provide developmental therapy and other services to children who need them.
Dedicated staff
Because the little ones at Childhaven need intensive therapeutic care and individual attention, we maintain a very low 3:1 child to teacher ratio for children two years old and under and 5:1 for children ages three to five. Our highly trained and compassionate staff members— case managers who are licensed mental health counselors and social workers, therapeutic child care teachers, home visitors and pediatric nurses—are committed to improving the lives of the children we serve. Meet our staff.
Community impact
In three locations across Seattle and King County, children through age five get the therapy, social interaction and emotional support they need to grow up happy and healthy.
Our community has come to rely on Childhaven as a place where parents, caregivers and children can find the understanding, strength and hope to become the families they want to be. By investing in Childhaven today, we help ensure the unlimited potential of children who will go on to become nurturing, loving parents themselves.
No other nonprofit organization in our community has a more profound impact on families and their young children.
